We'll depart from Lima in the early hours, around 4:00 AM. As we make our way down to Paracas on the famous Pan-American highway, you'll be captivated by views of the Pacific Ocean, intertwined with the fusion of desert terrains and vineyards distinct to the Lima and Ica regions. To energize your morning before our Islas Ballestas tour, our guide will provide a breakfast "box", priming you for spotting seals, sea lions, Humboldt penguins, Peruvian pelicans, boobies,... and with a bit of luck, dolphins!
Following that, we'll head south for approximately an hour until we arrive at the city of Ica, home to the iconic Huacachina oasis. Our next adventure awaits there: hop onto a Polaris buggy to explore the vast Ica desert. Brace yourself for an exhilarating, rollercoaster-esque ride and then shift gears to sandboard down the majestic dunes.
After our sandy adventure, we'll return to downtown Ica for a culinary treat. You'll get the chance to savor three dishes emblematic of the Ica region, capped off with a dessert that traces its origins back to this very area.
On our way back to Lima, we'll pause briefly for a pisco tasting session. This will also be a chance for you to delve deeper into pisco production and gain insights into Peru's heritage as you tour the bodega.

Estimated time of arrival in Lima: 20:00

Testimonials

  • Perfect day trip from Lima

The Islas Ballestas tour? Absolute magic! It's not every day you get to see such awesome marine life and natural beauty. And those sand dunes? Talk about a playground for thrill-seekers! But let's not forget lunch - it was a flavor fest. Truly some of the best grub I've had in a while. All in all, it was a jam-packed day of cool sights and yummy bites!

Questions?

  • 01 Is this food tour physically demanding?
    color/negro
Guests with reduced mobility may find sandboarding too challenging. If needed, they may skip it and wait for the group in the buggy with our guide. Although the buggy and boat activities may give guests an adrenaline rush, these are not particularly demanding. That being said, the total duration of the tour door-to-door (16h) may be too tiring for some people.

    color/negro
Pick up and drop off is included in the price from/to any location in the Lima Metropolitan area. That being said, for LIM Airport or Callao cruise terminal pick ups/drop offs, please reach out before booking, as some details need to be checked prior to confirming your booking.

    color/negro
Shortly after picking you up, your guide will hand you a breakfast 'box' that you will be able to eat on your way to Paracas. Later, a traditional Ica lunch will be served. Depending on your appetite and personal preference, you may want to bring snacks to eat throughout the day, as well as water, especially for the leg back to Lima.

This tour can cater for people with any allergy, including but not limited to gluten, lactose and soy. This day tour, can be adapted for people on a vegetarian or vegan diet. While our goal is to be as inclusive as possible, we are unfortunately unable to offer halal and kosher alternatives at the moment due to the difficulty for some Peruvian restaurants to acquire and stock items with such characteristics.
  • 05 Do I have to book in advance?
    color/negro
We recommend to book at least 2 weeks in advance to make sure it's not sold out, but in most cases we accept bookings up to 72 hours before the tour starts.
  • 06 Is this food tour family friendly?
    color/negro
Generally speaking, it is. However, it's important to know that children will need to be at least 5 years old to participate in the Huacachina buggy + sandboarding activity, and 1 year old for the Islas Ballestas boat tour. Therefore, we wouldn't recommend this tour to families whose children are younger than 5.

    color/negro
This tour only operates in private. Please note that the boat to tour Islas Ballestas will be shared with other people (total capacity: 10 or 20 people, depending on the day). If you would like to fully privatize the boat, please reach out to us for a custom quote.

  • 10 Is this tour wheelchair accessible?
    color/negro
Unfortunately, this tour is not wheelchair accessible.
  • 11 Do you offer any other tour?
    color/negro
Yes, we have several food tours in the bank. Each of them offer a different perspective on Peruvian gastronomy. We like to think we have an option for all budgets and interests! Although we specialize in food tourism, if you'd like to visit a museum, or another area of Lima not covered by one of our tours, please do let us know – we will for sure be able to arrange something with the help of our trusted partners.
  • 12 How likely am I to get sick?
    color/negro
With our tour, extremely unlikely. All the stops are carefully vetted by our team and we run regular checks to make sure they maintain the same standards, both in terms of quality of the food as well as hygiene. Food poisoning is of course something that shouldn't be ignored in Peru, so we always recommend to eat or drink at places that were recommended by at least one local person, combined with positive online reviews.
